Baptism

Baptism is a powerful symbol of what Jesus has done for us – dying on the cross, being buried, and rising again. As we go under the water, it represents being buried with Christ, and as we rise from the water, it signifies being raised with Him to new life (Romans 6:3–4). Through baptism, we publicly declare that our sins have been washed away and that we now belong to Jesus.

Baptism doesn’t make us Christians. We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by our works or any ritual. Rather, baptism is an act of obedience and a public testimony of the salvation we’ve already received through faith in Him.

Getting baptised at LifeGate Church

Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus and begun following Him is welcome to be baptised. There’s no minimum or maximum age, as long as the person understands the gospel and is seeking to live as a disciple of Jesus.

At LifeGate Church, we don’t baptise infants, but we hold child dedications for families who desire to raise their children in the ways of the Lord. If you were baptised as an infant and now wish to make a personal declaration of faith, we’d love to invite you to be baptised as a believer.

  • Let Ps. Paul (paul.shi@lifegatechurch.org.au) or another pastor know you’d like to be baptised, or fill out the form on this page.

  • Learn what baptism means, why we do it, and what to expect. Sign up for our next baptism class here.

After this class, we’d love for you to have a one-on-one chat with Ps. Paul or a delegated pastor to confirm your readiness and answer questions.

  • Prepare a short story of your faith journey:

    • Life before Christ
    • How/why you decided to follow Christ
    • Life after Christ
    • Optional: a meaningful Scripture, and thanks to people who helped you along the way)

  • Download the Water Baptism Form (PDF), fill it in, and send it to office@lifegatechurch.org.au

  • Our media team will film your 3-minute testimony to be shown on the day of your baptism.

  • You’ll share your three-minute testimony during the baptism service through the pre-recorded video. Baptisms are held either in the church pool mid-year or at Chelsea Beach in December.

Before being baptised, you’ll be asked, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God, that He died and rose again for your sins, and that in Him you have eternal life?” You’ll respond with a confident “Yes,” and then be baptised in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
