Baptism is one of the two practices Jesus commanded His church to observe (the other being Communion). It’s an outward sign of an inward reality: that we have put our faith in Jesus Christ and begun the Christian life.

What is Baptism?

  • Baptism is a symbol of what Jesus has done for us — dying on the cross, being buried, and rising again.

  • When we go under the water, it pictures being buried with Christ. When we rise out of the water, it pictures being raised with Him to new life (Romans 6:3–4).

  • It’s a public declaration that our sins are washed away and that we belong to Jesus.

What Baptism Isn’t

  • Baptism doesn’t make you a Christian.

  • We are saved by faith in Jesus alone, not by works or rituals.

  • Baptism is an act of obedience and testimony, not the basis of salvation.

Who Can Be Baptised?

  • Anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus and begun following Him.

  • There’s no minimum or maximum age, as long as the person understands the gospel and is living as a disciple of Jesus.

  • We do not baptise infants, but we do hold child dedications for families who want to raise their children in the ways of Jesus.

  • If you were baptised as an infant and now want to make a personal declaration of faith, we welcome you to be baptised as a believer.

Why Be Baptised?

  • It’s a step of obedience to Jesus’ command.

  • It’s a reminder to yourself of what Christ has done for you.

  • It encourages your church family as they see your declaration of faith.

  • It’s a powerful opportunity to share the gospel with friends and family who witness your baptism.

Steps to Get Baptised

  1. Express Interest - Let Ps. Paul or another pastor know you’d like to be baptised.

  2. Attend a Baptism / Christian Essentials Class - Learn what baptism means, why we do it, and what to expect.

  3. Pastoral Conversation - Have a one-on-one chat with Ps. Paul or a delegated pastor to confirm your readiness and answer questions.

  4. Write Your Testimony (3 minutes) - Prepare a short story of your faith journey:

    • Life before Christ

    • How/why you decided to follow Christ

    • Life after Christ

    • Optional: a meaningful Scripture, and thanks to people who helped you along the way)

  5. Complete the Baptism Application Form - Download the Water Baptism Form (PDF), fill it in, and send it to office@lifegatechurch.org.au.

  6. Testimony Filming - Our media team will film your 3-minute testimony to be show on the day of your baptism.

  7. Baptism Day

    • Share your 3-minute testimony in the service (via pre-recorded video)

    • Get baptised (either in the church pool mid-year or at Chelsea Beach in December).

    • You’ll be asked:

“Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God, that He died and rose again for your sins, and in Him you have eternal life?”

You’ll respond “Yes,” and then be baptised in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Interested in Getting Baptised?

We hold baptisms twice a year — once during month of June at LifeGate Church, and another in December at the Chelsea Beach.

If you’re interested to get baptised, your first step is to contact Ps. Paul Shi. He’ll walk you through the process and answer any questions.
